Responsible Refurbishments

Channel Way

‘Responsibility’, ‘Reuse’ and ‘Recycle’ are at the heart of every decision. With BAE Systems working towards NetZero by 2030, we have designed and created a working space in the most environmentally sustainable way possible. Here’s how we achieve this:

Sustainability is at the heart of our design. All products used are 100% recyclable and furniture is repurposed and reused from other BAE Systems sites. All furniture is locally sourced using local businesses. In fact, all new furniture is manufactured and assembled within a 20 mile radius of Channel Way. As the building was being emptied, all of the materials were then sent to be stripped down and divided into separate waste streams and recycled. Carpet tiles were taken away and stripped down to be made into brand new carpet tiles. Any existing furniture was offered to BAE Systems employees while whiteboards were donated to Derian House, a children’s hospice based in Chorley, Lancashire. Once the furniture had been removed, the carpet tiles were taken up and sent for stripping. This involves taking the carpet tiles apart down to individual strands, which are then cleansed, and remade into brand new carpet tiles through the Tarkett ReStart Programme
